Pfizer Pakistan provides access to medicine by supporting NGOs
January 22, 2014 – Pfizer Pakistan, as a responsible corporate company, has a strong tradition of funding and working with external not-for-profit organizations to support shared goals towards providing broad public benefit, advance medical care and improve patient outcomes. Pfizer effectively designs programs to address unmet medical needs by creating sustainable access to medicine. We strive to provide quality medicine to the needy and help educate them to choose a healthier way of life.
Every year, Pfizer evaluates requesting organizations for cash and kind donations. In the year ending 2013, under its CSR charter Pfizer Pakistan donated medicines and therapies to a number of organizations working across various areas.
Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre (MALC), a leading organization working towards the elimination of leprosy, tuberculosis and blindness, was one of the recipients. Dr Ruth Pfau, the founder of the organization and a devoted social worker, helping millions of lives over decades, said, “We are thankful to Pfizer for their donation of medicines that we need for critical care of our patients. We require medicines every month and any shape of donation is helpful.”
Shaheen Welfare Society, based out of Sheikhupura and working for local communities by organizing camps, received medicines for its dispensary based in rural Punjab. Other recipient associations included, Fatimid Foundation Kidney Centre, providing quality treatment to dialysis, thalassemia and hemophilia patients on an ongoing basis.
Earlier in 2013, Pfizer Pakistan Limited supported Pakistan Education Foundation (PEF) – focused on ensuring access of quality education to the underprivileged.
“Our primary area of interest in CSR activities is healthcare with some focus on education to support organizations across Pakistan. We have also worked with the global Pfizer Foundation to implement programs for awareness, counseling and capacity building in the areas of Cancer and Smoking Control,” said Ahmer Ashraf, Country Lead for Corporate Affairs.
Pfizer Pakistan, in line with its vision of “Working Together for a Health World,” will continue to partner with not-for-profit organization on an ongoing basis to help improve the quality of life of the people in the local communities.
